Heres the thing

first off where did all the cool options go? i said they were lame i dident say i dident like having them....

anyways, calliander, for a man or woman who truely loves music, so much that it is there passion there life force if you will, there can be no greater moment in theyre lives then seeing theyre beloved music played live. to be at a concert to actually feel the music running through you as its being created, is one of the most euphoric feelings ever. i can really only compare the feeling to sex. weather its mozart at the piono (yes i know we can never truley experince him live but many a pianist can do more than justice to his music) or Dieing Fetus ripping your soul from its very being, music brings out the life inside you that maybe you dident know you had. when i saw Joe Morello, the man that had a hand in creating "Take 5" when i was 15 it changed my life forever. when i went to see Maceo Parker at Toads Place i left feeling not only like i had experienced a great great show, but that i was forever part of something more than just music, i was a part of life, love, and FUNK. A legend on stage no more than 20 feet from me, no words can really describe that feeling and do it justice. or take it to another level, when i go to see Candiria, and im jumping and stomping through the pit and im kicking and hitting kids and theyre kicking and hitting me, we are releasing something that the people on the outside dont understand we share a bond that only we could ever understand that to the outsider just looks like a bunch of kids beating the hell out of one another. or to Trey, having never seen Phish i cant say how awesome it would be but i can imagin, just seeing mike on stage for real with Trey at the Tweeter Center this year, absolutely amazing so much so that i wont even try to describe it because i couldnt ever write what that felt like. for me, and for alot of people like me there can be no price tag for these feelings, no matter how silly it may seem to anyone. SO i guess what im trying to say is that money for music, be it $7.00 for a local show at the Tune In or to see Phish at Madison Square Garden for $10,000.00, its all the same to me because its so deep inside me.

948 peace

Ahh, Calliander

"I don't care how good a band is: no tickets in any stadium or concert hall or wherever are worth more than $100.00. If you would spend $500.00 on a ticket to see a band, you're a fucking moron."

That's stupid. You're saying that some kid who makes $12,000 a year at his job is allowed to spend $100 on a band ticket, but a grown man with a great job, making $80,000 a year, can't spend $500 on band ticket? It's their money. If you want to judge things like this, maybe you could say that it's stupid for people without any money to spend $100+ on a ticket, but someone who makes a good amount of money can and should spend his cash on whatever the fuck he wants, as long as he's willing to pay for it.

Stupid is a minimum wage earner buying expensive, cheaply-made clothing at some mall store, not a wealthy guy spending $3,000 per on Oxxford suits that are going to last and look good forever.

A kid who goes out and buys a $20,000 car on a $40,000 a year salary is more of a moron than the guy who buys a $225,000 Bentley and makes $500k a year. You understand where I'm going?

Hell, I think a $20,000 watch, an instant heirloom type watch that qualifies as wearable art, something like that, is more justifiable than a $20 watch that'll get thrown out or lost within a year.

Bottom line, demand is its own justification. A person's only a moron if they're paying more for X than most people would pay for X - what X is doesn't matter. That's all.

Concerts

I don't care how good a band is: no tickets in any stadium or concert hall or wherever are worth more than $100.00. If you would spend $500.00 on a ticket to see a band, you're a fucking moron; much in the same way that if you would spend $20,000.00 on a watch you're a fucking moron. Sheesh.

Knaa'mean?

Phish

To be perfectly honest, If I had won 2 tickets in the pre-order lottery, you can bet that at $500 a pop, they'd be up on Ebay that afternoon, and I'd be waiting for the DVD to come out.

Fuckity Fuck

You know, I wouldn't have guessed that these New Years Phish tickets would have been so impossible to get. I figured they would be in high demand, but I didn't think that 15 people could all have no luck with the pre-order, and then the tickets go on sale and get sold out within 15 damn minutes. With no real publicity too. Just fans.

So I have no ticket.. and I'm even contemplating eBay scalpers. But, they are charging a lot. I haven't seen any tix go for under $500 a pop (for shitty seats). Hell, a pair of upper tiers went for 10k!

Eminem

I only like four songs off of the new Eminem album:

Cleanin' Out My Closet
My Dad's Gone Crazy
Sing For the Moment
Without Me

I think he's trying too hard with the new album. We've seen the angry, stupid Eminem on the past two albums and now he wants us to meet the serious Eminem you see on most of the album's songs. I don't like the serious Eminem. I also don't like the beats on the new album. They're pretty average for something coming from a Dre protégé. The four songs that I like remind me of his second album - the one I think is his best so far. Sing For the Moment is reminiscent of his original album, the one nobody counts.

I will give him that he's growing excellently in the "flow" department. He's really got some superb verbal skills.

Tori and such...

Hey Levres, long time no hear. Well as for your questions... As far as Tori goes I believe she reached her apex at Boys For Pele. Little Earthquakes was ok, but she was unproven and I think she curbed a lot of her artistical whims merely to please the suits at the record company. It's way more accessable than any of her other albums but it takes the fewest chances and there for falls short. Under the Pink, widely considered her best album was also good. In this album she allowed herself more artistic freedom and experimented much more. This album has a few standouts like God, The Waitress, and Yes Anastasia, but the rest of the album may as well be called Little Earthquakes II: the Revenge. Now Boys for Pele... this one holds a special place in my heart, for it was the CD that introduced me to Tori.

I'd just gotten back from a trip to the carribean with Calliander and was looking to blow some of my unspent vacation money. I bought a few CDs... one was Boys for Pele. It blew me away. In this album she was really trying to stretch the boarders of what you cold do with antiquated instruments, I see a lot of this type of experimentation with Rasputina which is a large reason why I am so enthralled by them, You should try looking into them... they might be a little dark for your tastes though. Her use of a harpsichord played through a Marshall Stack floored me. This song also holds my favorite Tori song, The Doughnut Song.

Then She came out with Choirgirl. Here she added the use of synthesizers and a full band and it just completely drowned out alot of her beautiful voice. Here she took her experimentation just a little too far. In a few songs, like hotel and she's your cocaine the electronica edge did yeild some very cool results, but for the most part, this one missed the target.

Then came To Venus and Back. The album without a soul. I don't mean that as a bad thing, individually some of the songs are incredible, Spring Haze ranks right up their with Doughnut Song, but the album lacked cohesion. You see, when I listen to a Tori song, I can immediately tell you what album it's from. That's not because I've memorized the track listings (which I have) but because each album had a soul to it. You can track what Tori was feeling and going through at the time. Whether it was her dealing with her rape in earthquakes, or the loss of her 7 year fiance in Boys for pele... you could tell. This one was like, "Well this song could have come of Under the Pink, or that one sounds like it was ripped right off of Choirgirl". This problem stems from the fact that Venus was never meant to be an album. Originally it was meant to be a CD of live performances and a Cd of B sides. Then Tori started adding new songs to the B sides. Eventually she added so many new songs she decided to scrap the B sides altogether and make a new album. This was a surprise even to her. That's why it came out a year after choirgirl, instead of her traditional 2 year break between albums.

Strange Little Girls... What can I say about this abortion. This was a CD full of covers so bad I DIDN'T BUY IT! Some more shameless covers include Eminem's '97 Bonnie and Clyde and Neil Young's Heart of Gold. Hearing her do Eminem was like eating pizza with Ice Cream on top... I love them both, but they are positively repugnant together.

Now, the last hope that I speak of in my last post was Tori's new album. Due out on October 24th, this unnamed album shall be the deal breaker for me. It is all new material and she will be touring to promote it. However, my hopes are not high. The basic fact of the matter is that TORI NEEDS TRAGEDY IN HER LIFE TO MAKE GOOD MUSIC. The first 4 albums were all inspired by personal tragedy. Her life is currently going very well, she's happily married with a 2 year old daughter now. We should be happy for her, but chances are the music we receive is going to be complete and utter tripe.

by the way, I don't enjoy Drips or Superman from the new Eminem CD.

My name is Mr. Maceo Parker..... GOODNIGHT!

whats it like to be less than 20 feet from a living breathing legend? its fucking awesome thats what its like. last night i saw one of the last great music men still kicking around. this is the man that invented soul, invented funk, the happiest man on the planet, Mr. Maceo Parker. i cant even put into words the feeling i got seeing this man peform live, this man has an aura around him, you know that he dosent just play some funk, he lives breaths eats and fucks funk. last night was one of the most moving musical experences of my life. once i calm down ill get more into detail.

from what i hear
