I'd like to insert a few entries from my freshman yearbook.
You shouldn't carry around so many disks. Get rid of ALF - [FlyingTim]
Have a nifty summer. Call me. We'll talk about computers and stuff. We'll put that scanner of mine to work. - ELIHU [LioConvoy]
Hell of a year, huh. I can't think of much to say. Sorry. Have a bitchin' vacation. Smoke up and tweak hard. - Rich
I was a dork. I had awefully few entries.. only about two pages worth. There is room in the yearbook for more than 12!
Anyway.. us geeks started coming together freshman year.. and we were strong come sophomore year.
Before sophomore year came the summer. I spent a month in Scotland at my grandparents place. I came back not long before the launch of Windows 95. So much hype surrounded that god damn shit software. But my summer was quiet otherwise.
Sophomore year started the videos. Pretty much the first video was Lio and Wilson's video on natural drugs (peyote, etc). It was a real blast to make. I still have it, and I will digitize it this summer. It brought a lot of us together after school.
Stone and I were often in the same class.. and we would frequently make videos whenever the option arose. Wilson was funny in videos because he looked so darn funny.. not to offend him. Wilson was this loud little kid who looked like a cabbage patch kid. He was sort of fat and had big round cheeks like a cabbage patch kid. I never really understood (and still dont) why he was built with so much baby fat. If you look at his parents, they're both relatively slim. And if you look at wilson now, he's damn skinny.
In tenth grade, the school orchestra became a class. There were also a slew of other folks who came up from middle school and joined. Its funny, in the four years at school I only had two stand partners. Both girls (I was usually the only guy who played violin.. it was the dorkiest of instruments in the orchestra and most girlish). My freshman stand partner went to a different violin section in the middle of 10th grade, and I got a new one. It's funny.. I had crushes on both.. never did anything about it tho.. ah well.
In 10th grade I also joined the swim team. I loved to swim, but god damn I hated the senior swimmer jocks. I was not very good and the coach made me swim in the meets anyway... no one made me feel bad about being not so good (I was not the WORST person at least), but I felt bad myself because I didn't want to be the reason we lost. I ended up quitting the team a tiny bit early (the season was pretty much done with in terms of meets).
I also did driver's ed this year. Back then you could do it when you were 15 and 6 months old. That's what I did. Calliander and The Beast were in my drivers ed. I didn't get to actually drive till I turned 16 tho.. so, by April '96 I had my license. This changed so much.
For my birthday that year, I also got a discman with car kit. I loved it. No more converting CD to tape. So, by summer I was cruising down the road listening to Peaches from Presidents of the United States of America (stupid band name) heading to Wilson's house to hang out.
To be continued..
