Insult Update [November 2002]

Just a quick notice. Over the next few days, Insult will be fairly slow to load. This is due to the SQL database being located 3000 miles away from the web server right now. I will move one or the other this week. In the mean time, deal with it.

The past few months have been a bit of a nightmare, and things are not really settling yet. I don't think I'll have a 'normal' month until May or June.

Don't expect the new version of Insult until late January. The wait is worth it though.

Caught in a lie

Okay, well.. I guess I've been caught in a lie. Well, it wasnt a lie when I said it. Thursday was a horrible day, and Friday didn't bring much of anything positive. Combine that with my body clock being way fucked, and you have a lame-oid who is making excuses. Sooo.. since I shouldn't have made any promises in the first place that weren't guaranteed to happen, I will make one that I can guarantee just a tad more.. I will get the new design up by October. So, just forget I mentioned anything.. maybe one day between now and October you'll load a brand spanking new site. Until then, fuck off.

In other news, the site's traffic has been up about 5% so far this month (day by day comparison). The prime reason apparently is due to the surge of folks finding us on Google when searching for chinese rap lyrics. Who can we thank for this? Why, It's Calliander. Click here to see his post. This is one of Calliander's few content-filled posts, even if he didn't write it. You'd be amazed to see people's average number of words per post. Calliander manages to fit in over 150 words despite the number of one-liner posts he's made.

I have been averaging over 200 words per post (total of 361 posts, not including this one). Levres is the leader on wordy posts with an average close to 400 words, with wilson somehow right behind with over 300 words on average.. despite his lack of posting (it has been over a month since we heard from wilson).

There are some posters which we havent heard from in quite a while. Arcee, Caniprokis, FlyingTim, Gatekeeper, Stone, hunch, and Wilson havent posted in 1-3 months, and there are a good number of authors who havent posted in over a year. Calliander has been one damn frequent poster tho.. Calliander, the Autoposter, and myself make up almost two thirds of the total posts here.

I will later describe how I took all this information into account when I decided what to do with the almost 1700 posts that are hiding on here. But that must wait till after I get some other things done.

I hate to post notices up here (especially with a date in the future), but not everyone has entered email data in their bio, so I can't easily mass-notify authors.

All authors, whether in-active or not, please login to the admin section and update your bios as soon as possible.

This is primarily to those that know me, but I need to know what authors I am allowed to post video footage of online. I urge you to contact me if the answer is not a simple yes or no.

Lastly, all accounts with out of date bios (meaning not updated since November 25, 2001) will be deactivated on December 15, 2001.

I'd like to see Insult have a sort of priority system for posts. Each post would be flagged for general readers, or secured, only to be read by Insult posters, or a specific group of posters. Insult posters would have to log onto the site before they could view secured posts. It seems like something that could be whipped up without much trouble.

Insult becomes almost completely useless to me when I'm at home. I still don't have anything to say, either.

I really really really need to get the new insult up. Mainly to get rid of some of the bullshit that pisses me (and others) off. I guess i'll put a module for friends of authors to be able to read notices like Callianders.. things the rest of the world doesnt care about and I dont like getting the complaints.

Yay for Calliander getting a computer I guess.. unless he is going to give it to me, I don't think I care at all. And if you must tell people about your D&D campaign, perhaps you can put the story up here as a post or something.. I don't enjoy D&D, and cant get into it.. but its really rude to people to mention some new thing and not tell a bit about it.

You can tell that most posters on here are not journalism majors. Or even communications. FlyingTim and Stone are english majors.. at least they write well.

Anyway.. I'm due for a rant soon.. but not tonight, too busy.
