I just wanted to post this quote from Stone back in 2003:
Well, Mike, you might have an argument there, if "the U.N. weapons inspectors have yet to find any evidence of threatening weapons or terrorist ties," was anywhere near being true.In fact, although I'm sure it's possible that "all [you] ever see is how the U.N. weapons inspectors have yet to find any evidence of threatening weapons or terrorist ties," you're being really, seriously, deeply misinformed. There's loads of evidence, everywhere, about the huge array of weapons Hussein holds - information that came up in 1990-91, whose veracity was redoubled during the last weapons-inspection-go-round we went through in 1998, and is yet still being amplified by the lies and bullshit being shoveled to us right now by the Iraqi government.
If only those folks who were even slightly ambivalent about the Iraq thing had been of the mind to argue... At least, the ones who could have put forth a good argument and stood up to the, "WE GOT HURT BY TURRIRISTS REAL BAD I WANNA BOMB SOMETHING!" people.
Or maybe if Colin Powell had possessed the mental fortitude to stand up to the Bush Administration. Shit, I would risk censure for that. "Listen, this fucking 'evidence' you're trying to make me put forward? It's balls!" (Sorry, had to toss in some love for Arrested Development.)
Keep in mind that I was on the fence about the war and eventually went for the "Liberate Iraq" stuff, partially believing the WMD stuff. So I'm not trying to insult Stone here, just the general asinine mindset we had back then. It was only five years ago, but it seems like an aeon. Man.
